New research published in *Nature Climate Change* reveals that coastal floods, once considered rare, are now 12 times more likely due to rising sea levels driven by human-induced climate change.
The study analyzed long-term tide gauge records and climate models, finding that human activities have significantly contributed to the increase in sea levels since the 1960s.

Impact & Risks

The increased frequency of coastal flooding endangers millions of people living in low-lying areas globally. Rising sea levels, combined with storm surges and high tides, exacerbate the risk of severe flooding, leading to property damage, displacement, and loss of life. The findings highlight the urgent need for improved coastal defenses and disaster preparedness to mitigate the growing threats posed by climate change.
